1. New Fencing Glove Requirements & Weapon Control Procedures
Applicable to: HKFA-organized and co-organized events (including inter-school and USF competitions)
New Requirements:
- The gauntlet of the glove must cover at least half of the fencer’s forearm to prevent an opponent’s blade from entering the jacket sleeve.
- No holes are allowed in the glove, including those for body wires.
- The closure of the glove must extend from the middle of the wrist upwards toward the thumb.
Weapon Control Procedures:
- Athletes competing in events with weapon control stations must bring their gloves, masks, fencing uniforms, and under plastrons for inspection.
- In inter-school competitions, referees will conduct equipment checks directly on the piste.
- If a fencer’s gloves do not meet the requirements, the referee will allow a reasonable amount of time for replacement. Failure to comply may result in disqualification from the event.
2. Regulations on Logos & Designs on Fencing Gear & Masks
Applicable to: HKFA-organized and co-organized events (including inter-school and USF competitions)
- National codes, flags, emblems, logos, or FIE-registered national/regional designs are prohibited on fencing uniforms and equipment.
- The only exception is “HKG” or “Hong Kong”, which remains permitted.
- Foreign athletes may display their FIE-registered national/regional logos.
Mask Design Regulations:
Front of the Mask:
- No patterns or designs are allowed.
- Only a single color is permitted.
- Foreign athletes may use their FIE-registered mask designs (if applicable).
- Side of the Mask:
- Club logos are permitted but require prior approval.
- Athlete names and country codes may be printed without prior approval.
Equipment Inspection Requirements:
- Any equipment found non-compliant will fail weapon control and cannot be used in competition, even if it meets other standards.
3. Updated Standards for Body Wires, Mask Wires & Epee Sockets
Applicable to: HKFA-organized events (excluding inter-school and USF competitions)
New Requirements:
- Body Wires: Connectors must be made of transparent material.
- Mask Wires: Must be 30-40 cm in length, with conductive wires secured to a crocodile clip and covered in white or transparent material.
- Epee Guard Socket: Must contain two separate holes, ensuring proper wire separation and insulation.
Final Notes
All fencers must check their equipment in advance to ensure compliance with the new regulations. Failure to meet these standards may result in disqualification. These updates aim to improve fairness and safety in competitions, and athletes should take the necessary steps to adapt as soon as possible.
